Skip the line — you walk straight in

No ticket window, no machine that refuses your card, no standing in the sun behind four coachloads. Your guide meets you with the tickets already in hand and takes you through the priority entrance — the fast-track lane kept for licensed agencies.
In July and August the queue at the Ephesus upper gate regularly runs twenty to forty minutes before you have even set foot in the city. On a cruise day that is a fifth of your time ashore spent looking at the back of someone's head. Our guests never join it.

- What it does not do, said honestly: it skips the ticket line, not the security check, and it cannot create space at a site the Ministry has closed or capped for the day. Those are nobody's to promise.
Every day, thousands of people drive through Selçuk with their eyes fixed on Ephesus and miss the town stacked casually around them: the burial place of St John the Evangelist, one of Turkey’s finest early mosques, the single standing column of a wonder of the ancient world, a Byzantine-Ottoman castle, and an aqueduct with storks nesting on top of it. All within a fifteen-minute walk of a very good köfte lunch.
What we’ll see
- Basilica of St John — built by Justinian over the tomb of the apostle; the view from the nave reaches from the castle to the Artemis plain.
- İsa Bey Mosque (1375) — Seljuk elegance, still a working mosque, usually nearly empty. Our guides’ favourite building in town.
- Temple of Artemis — one column remains of the wonder that was four times the Parthenon’s size. The story of why is the good part.
- Ayasuluk Castle and the aqueduct storks, the town museum with the famous Artemis statues, and — if you’re here on a Saturday — the weekly market, which is where this region actually shops.
Why do this with a local
Because Selçuk doesn’t perform for visitors; it just gets on with life, which is its charm. A guide who buys tomatoes here turns an ordinary street into the point of the day.

Can we combine Selçuk with Ephesus in one day?
Yes — a long day, but a great one. Write to us and we'll draw the timeline; it works best outside July and August.
Is the Basilica of St John really his burial place?
A tomb venerated as John's since the earliest centuries lies under the former altar — we lay out the evidence on site and let you weigh it, which is more fun than a yes.
When is the Selçuk market?
Saturdays, year-round, mornings. It's the real thing: produce, cheese, olives, household goods, and no souvenirs whatsoever.
